AMERICAN SKETCHES

 

American Sketches" is a set of twelve pieces for flute and piano composed by Nick which aims to present the flute in jazz, funk, soul, country and ambient contexts, not all of which are usually associated with the instrument, and to show the flute as a punchier, more heavyweight lead force.

These pieces are inspired by the wide spectrum of American styles which Nick has experienced during his travels in the United States.

​

The Native American-inspired "Huyana" , "Appalachian Summer", "Falling Water" and " Alaska" had their first performance in Georgetown, Cayman Islands in 2018 and 2019 with pianist Glen Inanga.
